Do Vaccinated Travelers Need a COVID-19 PCR Test for Ethiopia?

Fully vaccinated passengers are no longer required to take a COVID-19 test to travel to Ethiopia.The medical certificate must show full vaccination with an approved vaccine, at least 14 days before arrival

COVID-19 Entry Requirements for Ethiopia

  • Travelers without a certificate of full vaccination must present a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight. The test must be:
  • PCR test taken at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point
  • Rapid Antigen Test taken at most 24 hours before departure from first embarkation point
  • COVID-19 recovery certificate issued at most 90 days before arrival
  • Children under 12 are exempt from testing requirements.

  • Passengers with a COVID-19 certificate showing they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival do not need a pre-arrival test.
  • Accepted vaccines for travel are: AstraZeneca, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm, Sinovac

  • Meningitis: Recommended if traveling to Ethiopia during the dry season (Dec-June), meningitis is an airborne disease spread by direct contact.
